Yesterday CTTC has participated in a pilot demonstration at Mercabarna, where 5G technology and advanced localization solutions have been successfully integrated to demonstrate their application to increase traffic safety in a highly challenging mobility scenario, such as the city-like food market of Mercabarna, where a large number of industrial and transport vehicles co-exist with vulnerable users. Dr. Javier Arribas and Dr. Monica Navarro from the Communication Systems Division, have led CTTC’s contribution to the development of the on-board unit hybrid positioning functionality, which integrates a proprietary sensor fusion algorithm based on low cost commercial GNSS, inertial navigation unit and UWB radio-based ranging measurements. The pilot demonstration is an initiative of Mecabarna, Orange and 5G Barcelona.
