5GCroCo is a 5G-PPP phase III project, aimed at trialing 5G technologies for cooperative, connected, and autonomous driving in cross-border scenarios.
This is a 17-million Innovation Action (IA), partially funded by the European Commission (under ICT-18-2018 call), and coordinated by the CTTC. The project coordinator is Dr. Jesus Alonso-Zarate.
5GCroCo puts forth the end-to-end trial and validation of 5G technologies in cross-border scenarios. Large-scale validation of 5G technologies will be conducted in the European 5G corridor connecting the cities of Metz-Merzig-Luxembourg, traversing the borders between Germany, France and Luxembourg. In addition, small-scale pilots will also be conducted in a test track in Montlhéry (France), in Munich City Center, in the German A9 motorway, and in Barcelona City Center.
5G Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be validated and demonstrated while validating three specific use cases: 1) Tele-Operated Driving, 2) High Definition map generation and distribution of autonomous driving, and 3) Anticipated Cooperative Collision Avoidance.
5GCroCo will also identify and define new business models for autonomous and connected mobility based on 5G, and will also impact standards relevant to both the telco and automotive sectors (3GPP, ISO, etc.).
